A Grade II listed barn has opened as Kent’s newest wedding venue after a three-year project to convert it.
The Oak Barn at Frame Farm, Iden Green Road, Benenden has been lovingly restored by Deana and Tim Maw and has just hosted its first wedding.
The idyllic valley location offers bridal parties state of the art facilities in historic buildings grouped around a traditional farmyard, set in 25 acres with views across the Weald.
As well as two function barns with a terrace and courtyard, there's also accommodation in five cottages beside a wildlife pond.
"Our vision was to restore these redundant farm buildings, to give them a new purpose and one that would safeguard their future," said Tim.
"We wanted to preserve their history and character but hide new technology in the design, and all to be done in an environmentally positive way.".
The venue includes...
The Oak Barn
A magnificent high vaulted roof, floor to ceiling glass doors and glass fronted lean-to giving an abundance of natural light and seamless access onto the courtyard, stunning zoned lighting including colour changing floor recessed up-lights to fit with reception themes or corporate brand colours. A Bose sound and PA system, underfloor heating, air-conditioning system, wood burner and adjoining commercial kitchen ensure that it is the perfect space for entertaining reception or corporate guests.
The weaving house dated 1607 has been lovingly refurbished to house five cottages that offer refined contemporary accommodation, whilst retaining its historic character for wedding, leisure and corporate guests. Rich tones and sumptuous upholstery blend elegantly with an eclectic mix of furnishings, and all feature an open plan kitchen, dining and living area.
With its tranquil views over sheep grazing in the valley, is a classically elegant and versatile building which houses Absent Friends, a sculpture by renowned ceramic artist Sarah Purvey. The barn and terrace are perfectly suited to smaller events; workshops, retreats, dinners, wellbeing courses, intimate wedding ceremonies or memorials. The Byre is next to the wildlife pond with its pontoon and waterfall.
